How to get started

There is a growing demand for good quality out of school childcare. Out of school clubs are valuable sources of childcare for working parents, offering safe, secure and stimulating play opportunities.

This section contains tips and guidance to help you set up and run a successful out of school club.

Effective planning is the first step towards running a successful business. Sheffield Out of School Network has helped lots of clubs to get off the ground and keep running and we can help you too.

Before you begin to operate, you would need to consider:

  • Surveying the need
  • Finding out information about the locality
  • Looking at what kind of club is needed?
  • Ofsted requirements
  • Knowledge of your legal responsibilities – Insurances, Governance, Staffing,  Health & Safety
  • Premises
  • Finances
  • Marketing and promotion

In our members area you can directly access tools, resources and factsheets to help you with quantifying demand, writing a business plan, cashflow forecasting, budgeting, Ofsted registration, policies and record keeping, legal requirements, staffing and premises.

Ensuring your child receives quality care is vital to all parents, so whether you are looking for before or after school care or school holiday cover, you want your child to be safe and happy. Your child will also need to have fun, meet new friends and have plenty of opportunities to develop.
